The AKC’s list of the most popular breeds for 2010 is out….and it looks like the Labrador Retriever is #1 again! Not surprising since they are well-known as great family dogs, loyal, trainable and very friendly and non-aggressive. Those desirable traits have kept the Lab in the #1 spot for a decade.
The Bulldog has been creeping up the list from #21 in 2000 to #6 today. Doberman, Great Danes and Cavalier King Charles Spaniels also have slowly crept up the list going from spots in the 20’s and moving into the teens.
One of the biggest jumpers up the list in recent years has been the French Bulldog. Not surprising considering the increased popularity of the bulldog. The French Bulldog in a compact dog bringing her happy-go-lucky attitude to many dog owners. Bred as a companion dog her excercise requirements are minimal and they make a great pet for small spaces.
LolaBelle’s breed, the Havanese, has continued to climb up the chart as well. Starting at #86 in the year 2000 they have moved up to #31 in the last 10 years. We attribute that to LolaBelle being such a good ambassador for her breed! lol!
