Vick pit bulls on the slow road to recovery

Michael Vick just received his first endorsement deal since returning to the NFL after completing jail time for dog fighting. Once again we, as a nation, are reminded of the horrors of dog fighting.

My friend Monica shared this story about how Vick’s pit bulls are recovering. Honestly, I wasn’t sure any of the dogs survived. It’s wonderful to see that many of the dogs have been rehabilitated and placed in loving homes.

I will confess, I am not a big fan of the American Pit Bull. But this quote  says it all.

“You get them in a shelter and see this dog with huge, open wounds that haven’t been treated, and he’s still wagging his tail and licking your hand and looking at you with big, brown doggie eyes,” said Debbie Hill, the Humane Society’s vice president of operations. “It doesn’t matter if it’s a golden retriever, a Saint Bernard or a pit bull. They all have that look of, ‘Something terrible happened to me and I didn’t deserve that.’ It’s still a dog. They still deserve a second chance.”

Dogs are only as mean as the people who raise them. Learn more about Best Friends Animal Society, the shelter that is rehabilitating many of Michael Vick’s dogs, after the BARK…..ready?……BARK!
